Smart Pet Collar for 24/7 Health and Behavior Tracking

PetPace Smart Collar Enables 24-Hour Pet Health Monitoring

A new smart collar that enables pet owners and veterinarians to monitor dogs’ and cats’ health around the clock became available to the public on Tuesday. The wireless wearable device, developed and manufactured by PetPace, is designed to provide continuous, noninvasive tracking of a pet’s vital signs and behavior to support early disease detection and improved preventive care.

The PetPace collar is initially available in Florida and Massachusetts, with broader availability planned later this summer for the rest of the United States. The product combines miniature sensors with cloud-based analytics to deliver real-time insights into a pet’s condition, helping owners and veterinary teams detect changes earlier than would be possible with occasional observations alone.

“This is a product that is going to revolutionize veterinary medicine, as well as enhancing a pet owner’s ability to recognize that their pet is becoming ill before they start showing physical signs,” said Dr. Teresa Lightfoot, director of BluePearl Science, who conducted clinical trials of the collar. “The ability to have real-time, continuous access to pets’ vitals is undoubtedly going to save pets’ lives.”

PetPace’s smart collar integrates multiple sensors to monitor temperature, pulse, respiration, activity patterns, body positions, calories burned, indicators of pain, heart rate variability, and other physiological and behavioral parameters. The device collects this data automatically and continuously, without disrupting the pet’s normal routine. Proprietary Big Data software then analyzes the collected information in real time, referencing both historical data and breed-specific norms to identify potential concerns.

A sophisticated rule-based engine supports the analytics by quickly cross-referencing large amounts of relevant information and optimizing the data to highlight meaningful trends. When the system detects a potential health issue or unusual pattern, it generates alerts and sends them to designated recipients, such as the pet owner or the pet’s veterinarian. These alerts create opportunities for early intervention, which can improve treatment outcomes, preserve quality of life, and reduce disease-related costs.

Beyond early detection, the smart collar is a valuable tool for monitoring pets with existing health conditions or those at higher risk of developing problems. Continuous data allows veterinarians to evaluate a pet’s condition, track progress over time, and assess response to treatments more accurately than intermittent office visits alone. The device was developed with input from veterinarians across multiple specialty disciplines to ensure clinical relevance and practical use in preventive medicine and ongoing care.

“After three years of research and development, I am very happy and proud to be launching this great pet health product in Florida and Massachusetts,” said Dr. Asaf Dagan, chief veterinary scientist at PetPace. “This collar will enable pets, for the first time, to ‘tell’ us how they feel.”

The collar also supports personalized pet health profiles that owners can build and maintain. These profiles enable comparisons with similar dogs or cats, support daily activity goal tracking, and provide periodic health reports that summarize key trends and metrics. Pet parents can use these reports to better understand their pet’s baseline health and recognize deviations that warrant attention.

In addition to monitoring and reporting features, the PetPace platform includes a private social network where pet owners can communicate with other like-minded caregivers. This community feature lets owners share experiences and insights while keeping their pet’s health information private and secure.

Most importantly, the company emphasizes that the smart collar is intended to give owners peace of mind by reducing the likelihood that disease, pain, or discomfort will go unnoticed. The collars are offered for purchase at $150, with the monitoring service available for $15 per month.

With continuous monitoring, real-time analytics, and veterinarian-informed design, the PetPace smart collar aims to expand remote monitoring capabilities for pet health, support preventive veterinary medicine, and help owners act sooner when their pets’ health changes. As the product rolls out more widely this summer, it will be available to more families seeking an advanced wearable solution for pet health monitoring.
